CraZY Fun and Lotsa Weekend Warriors

Soooooooo what are you doing this weekend, anything fun  hmmm? Part of living the American dream is to enjoy weekends. I’m certain that’s what Mondays are for: just to look forward to the weekend. It’s that ahhhhhh time when you look forward to getting caught up on the laundry, maybe watch a football game or three while folding the towels and attempting to match the quagmire of socks. Perhaps attending your kid’s soccer game then grilling out on the patio is the thing that makes you long for the weekend, or maybe it’s the anticipation of a hot date or going to a concert or both!

What separates this American past-time from being just plain fun to being CraZy fUn? Putting your BOOTS ON, of course! Bill Schneider knows what I’m talkin’ about. He turned 6 years of riding in the beautiful Garden State of New Jersey to a CraZy fUn level when he put his BOOTS ON this past weekend and rode in the Rolling Thunder bike ride in honor of our POW/MIA along with thousands of his riding friends!

Boot Rider Bill

He became a weekend warrior in honor of his son who is currently in active duty and while supporting 3 kids in college! WOW that guy probably needs a second job on the weekend but like he said “too often, people sit back and let someone else go the distance. I want to be one that goes the distance for someone else!” That “someone” he rides for includes our fallen heroes, those who gave their lives for our right to enjoy our weekends.

2,400 miles away, in glorious Southern California our friend Reggie Escalante ran in the September 11th Heroes Run. But he took the challenge to a CraZy fUn level by puttin’ his BOOTS ON! When asked why he would do such a CraZy fUn thing he said

I read through the web site( and was inspired to learn that a small effort by The Boot Girls became contagious and help spread awareness for our troops and their families, and how often times a simple thoughtful act can echo across the miles. At that time I was already registered for the 9/11 Heroes Run. This run consisted of a 5K “Warrior Run” with mud pits, logs, rocks, etc. The event was in remembrance of September 11, and in honor of 1st Lt. Travis Manion of the USMC, who was killed by a sniper’s bullet in Iraq in 2007. Proceeds went to the Travis Manion Foundation and to the OC Fallen Firefighters Relief Fund. I found this to be perfect timing for a “Get Your Boots On” moment and show appreciation for our heroes making sure I have the freedom and opportunity to participate in such an expression of gratitude.

Um, I’m pretty sure Marcus Luttrell would appreciate the effort Reggie made to get “wet and sandy” in honor of a fallen hero. Although Reggie didn’t purposefully run out into the ocean then roll in the sand, before his run, he took on mud pits when he ran. Dude, mud is HEAVY! Reggie also became a Weekend Warrior, mud-n-all in his BOOTS!

Tricia Howerton spent this weekend being appreciated. She should be appreciated. Her husband is in active duty and it’s certain most weekends neither have much time to be together, if at all.  In fact when asked about her husband, she replied:

My husband has just entered into his 20th year of service. He is on his third deployment to Iraq. He is the commander of 3-29 Field Artillery which is a part of the 3rd Brigade in the 4th Infantry Division. He leads a combat team conducting stability missions in Operation New Dawn.

He gave up his rights of his weekends, and spending time with his lovely wife so the rest of us can enjoy ours. Tricia decided to make the Operation Homefront evening CraZy fUn by putting her BOOTS ON. Of course being appreciated wasn’t the focus of Tricia’s evening as much as it was for her to honor the one person she wanted to spend her weekend with; her husband! Her husband is a Weekend Warrior every day of the week; and so is Tricia for that matter!
